An Irish Dream – Early Intermediate Piano Solo
This Original Composition was composed for one of my long-time students who has significant Irish heritage. In fact, the true inspiration came from her stories of connecting with extended family & exploring her ancestry that she found through DNA testing.
This piece is intentionally written in Dorian mode, which provides a perfect setting for a ‘dream’. You can hear some mystery & suspense balanced with bright inspirational major harmonies. The long & lyrical melodies should be played & thought of similar to a flute (or Irish flute). There is also Mixed-Meter (3/4 & 6/8) & Asymmetrical Form, which provides an opportunity for unique & interesting phrasing.
The technical elements are of the piece would make this fall into Grade 2-3 and/or Early Intermediate.
